Here at WALX In The Forest we welcome everyone to our club to see for yourself just how beneficial exercising in the great outdoors, including Nordic Walking, can be for you, no matter what your goal is. Whether your motivation is fitness, weight management, social or a combination, there is something here for you in our outdoor fitness club – no walls and no gym!
With its remarkable range of plants and animals, ancient tradition of Commoning, varied history and distinctive local communities, the New Forest National Park is unique.
And so are we at WALX In The Forest: we make the most of this exceptional landscape, offering a variety of walks ranging from gentle walks for those who like a more sedate pace or are just starting out on their fitness journey, to adventure walks with varying amounts of challenge and distance – some moderate-paced and some a little swifter or longer. All though, are a great opportunity to explore the New Forest.
We are a very sociable group, often stopping for coffee and cake (or sometimes a sundowner!) after the walks, with many great friendships having been forged between people whose paths would never normally have crossed.
Every now and then an ‘away day’ will take us a little further afield to sample more of the great British countryside, often taking in not only fabulous views but maybe also fabulous pubs.
Why not join one of our Drop-in WALX and give it a go?
In 2021 NWUK Ringwood and New Forest became WALX In The Forest and now offers more types of walks and opportunities to experience this beautiful area.
- Nordic WALX – with The Power Of The Poles course delivering a comprehensive introduction to the basics to get you out Nordic Walking quickly and efficiently.
- Total Body WALX – making the most of nature’s facilities in our outdoor gym to get your heart pumping and your fitness levels raised. Not for the faint-hearted!
- Wellness WALX – a more gentle experience in the great outdoors which may include gentle Nordic Walks, Mindfulness Walks, less demanding exercise classes and other relaxing outdoor experiences, with or without Nordic Poles.
- Explorer WALX – this is where we get further out into the magnificent New Forest to discover fabulous heaths, woodlands and commons, encountering much of the wildlife and habitats which make it so special, with or without Nordic Poles.
Janet Bryant: WALX Master with WALX In The Forest
I first heard of Nordic walking many years ago, but it did not become an integral part of my life until November 2018 when I attended a talk and demonstration by an experienced and very motivational instructor. I was intrigued by everything it offered and two days later I was on a ‘Learn To’ course, meeting new people, learning the technique and exercising outdoors, not in a gym!
A few walks later I was hooked!
I felt refreshed and invigorated, mentally and physically, after every walk, regained my love of nature by being surrounded by the beauty of the New Forest, and motivated to manage my weight better.
I was in a position where I could completely change my career path and being a Nordic Walking Instructor and Delivery Partner meant that I could share with others how Nordic Walking could enhance their lives as a social and fun form of exercise, kind on the body while meeting new people and enjoying the great outdoors.
Now, the introduction of WALX is an exciting opportunity to share the great outdoors with everyone, with or without poles!
Sally Gardner – Walk Leader
I’ve always walked with family and friends, but realised a couple of years ago that I needed to put in a bit more ‘effort’ to sustain the level of fitness needed to take part in activities with younger family members, and to get the most enjoyment from walking in our beautiful surroundings.
I learnt to Nordic Walk in November 2018 and can honestly say it has made a massive difference to my lifestyle and wellbeing. Inspired by a number of instructors, I was able to lose weight and improve my fitness levels at the same time as making a whole new bunch of like-minded lovely friends!
I first met Janet in January 2019 at a ‘weigh in and workout’ class run by Lucie from Walx Dorset and we haven’t looked back since!
I trained as a walk leader with Walx Dorset in February 2020 and have mainly lead walks around the Wimborne area. I’ve joined Janet at Walx in the Forest as I really want to share some of my favourite walks across the Dorset / Hampshire Border.
